My Leica IIIG, a pure Nostalgia Machine
My dad owned a Leica IIIG, I remember him shooting with it back when I was a toddler, then it went into a camera bag and sat for decades. Dad's IIIG went to my brother Alex a few weeks before dad died, I got the Leica M3 and Nikon F. I tried Alex's IIIG and made an utter mess with loading the camera and got one frame on a roll of film with 36 exposures. I stuck with my M3 and M4-2 much easier to load.
Earlier this spring I picked up a Leica IIIF, and shot two rolls through it, I got a lot better at loading a Barnack Leica. Then I wanted a IIIG, even set up a search on EBay but my preference was to find something locally and already serviced. Well.......Facebook Marketplace delivered, a local seller here in Oakville was looking to sell his early production IIIG that was recently overhauled by Kanto Camera in Japan. Everything checked out with this test roll and oh wow! Leica nailed with the last of the Barnacks!
