Leaving Parkdale for Sunnyside #2018TOPWrs

Image
This is an interesting stretch of Queen Street, it is the very west end of Parkdale, King St. curves north and becomes Roncesvalles, and Queen St. becomes the Queensway. At the west end of King, there used to be the Sunnyside Train Station that served Grand Trunk and later Canadian National, it was closed in 1967 when GO Transit having took over commuter rail service decided not to serve that neighbourhood. One can wonder what Parkdale and Sunnyside would be like if GO Transit did stop there in 1967 onwards. The train station most likely would would have been preserved and Parkdale would not have declined in the 1970s. It would also affect the neighbourhoods to the north like Sunnyside and Roncesvalles Village, at this point it is pure speculation. GO Transit decided to stop at Exhibition instead. Walking up into Roncesvalles is always fun, it reminds me a bit of the neighbourhood I grew up in Montreal, particulary when you go further up towards High Park Boulevard. I love walkable ...

Little Portugal and Parkdale #2018TOPWrs

Image
Last weekend I went on a great photowalk in Toronto's Little Portugal and Parkdale lead by Mary Flint Crandall. I belong to a group called Toronto Photo Walks, and they explore neighbourhoods in the city. While mostly digital shooters TOPW are friendly and inclusive, if you're into photography regardless of medium, looking to meet new friends and explore the city, you'll love this group. I've been on a Minolta kick of late, especially with my SRT 101, it is a fun camera to shoot with. I shot a roll of Cinestill 50D through my black 101 and you won't see those photos for a bit, my go to C-41 lab is closed for vacation. It was the perfect system for this walk, I might take my SRT 202 and XE-7 into the city for my stay at my brother's place. Camera: Minolta SRT101, MC Rokkor 55 f1.8 lens.
