Fun with a $35 Camera in the City (Pentax ME Super)

Image
On a whim a few months back I picked up a Pentax ME super off the classifieds on the Pentax Forums for the all low price of $35. I already have a couple of K mount bodies (a pair of KX's and an MX), it would cool to have an AE body in the line up. This is a fun camera to shoot with on AE, actually quite intuitive. Switching over the manual, you realize quickly there's a bit of a learning curve because, instead of a dial Pentax went with two buttons to control shutter speed. It is a no tears,  no regrets camera, I paid very little for it, works great for now but if something goes wrong, I'll be more pissed at losing the roll of film and not the camera. Toronto Film Shooters Meet Up Part Three

Toronto Film Shooters Meet Up Part Two

Image
Gerrard St. Between Broadview and Carlaw still has its grit, for now. Even then there are signs of change, a cool bar here, an indie coffee shop there, change is inevitable. Camera: Asahi Pentax MX, SMC-M Pentax 50 f1.7 lens. Film: Kodak Portra 400.

Toronto Film Shooters July Meet Up Part One

Image
I belong to both the Toronto Film Shooters Facebook Group and the Film Shooters Collective and organized combined photo walk. We explored Chinatown East along Gerrard and then made our way down Carlaw and heading west on Queen through Leslieville ending up in Riverside for lunch. I traveled light and decided to shoot in colour with Kodak Portra 400. Thankfully the weather cooperated, as this is shaping up to be a very waterlogged Summer in Southern Ontario. German Woollen Mill Ruins in Glen Morris

Image
After lunch we left Elora for an hour's drive south through Cambridge down to Glen Morris to visit the German Woollen Mill Ruins on the shores of the Grand River. Rumour has it the ruins are haunted, I didn't see any ghosts while I was there, only a couple and their wedding photographer showing up to do an engagement shoot. The mill has a bit of an interesting history, started out processing, became an inn and later a private residence. It sits between the river and the Paris to Cambridge Rail Trail. Ben, Svetlana and I walked in from the south by about 2 km, being a rail trail it was an easy walk. Camera: Asahi Pentax KX, SMC Pentax K 28 f3.5 lens, SMC Pentax M 50 f1.7 lens. November Trip to Elora Part II

Image
Elora won't be the same in a few short years, best to enjoy it while we got it before the change happens. Camera: Asahi Pentax KX, SMC Pentax M 50 f1.7 lens. Film: Rollei RPX 400 processed in HC110 B.

Elora on a November Day

Image
I went on a day trip up to Elora last weekend with friends, it was a nice escape for a little while. Elora is going to change over the next few years when "The Mill" reopens as a boutique hotel and the old furniture factory ruins become a new hotel, conference centre and wedding chapel. They already began construction on the south side of the Grand River. The end result will change the town but hopefully not wrecking its character. Camera: Asahi Pentax KX, SMC Pentax M 50 f1.7 lens.
