A North of the City Last Summer

Image
Another roll from last Summer but this time in colour. I have four Canon F-1's, two from the new era (1980s) and two from the 1970s. The oldest of the F-1's I have, has issues with the film transport, and some shutter bounce, it has been sent off for an overhaul. What you see here, has been fixed through the magic of Adobe Lighr Room's graduated filter. Otherwise, the end results look stunning. Canon FD glass just delivers.  I love the 1970s Canon F-1's as they were Canon's answer to the Nikon F and F2 respectively and Canon glass, what is there to say that hasn't already been said. The sad thing is the motion picture industry is re-housing FD glass for cine use, so, Canon FD shooters, you better invesst in your lenses sooner than later.  The day trip north of the city was part beer run to Second Wedge Brewing in Uxbridge, visiting an old university friend who lives in Newmarket and stopped by in downtown Schomberg on the way home. I just realized something, I...

Uxbridge and Goodwood (my brief visit to Schitt's Creek).

Uxbridge is one of my favourite small towns just outside the Greater Toronto Region, home to the York Durham Heritage Railway and a rather pretty downtown including an art deco movie theatre. As the pandemic wore on people were doing dumb stuff around the railway so it's now fenced off. As much as I would like to photograph the locomotives and the vintage passenger rolling stock, I'm not tresspassing so I photograph around the edge.  On the way back to the 404 and I briefly stopped in Goodwood better known as Schitt's Creek. Now to spoil things, the motel isn't located in Goodwood but over an hour's drive away easily in the Hockley Valley northeast of Orangeville. I will have to photograph the motel at some point, some day.  Camera: Nikon F2AS, Nikkor Ai 50 f2 lens.  Film: Bergger Pancro 400, HC110 B.

Beaverton Ontario, Labour Day Weekend

Image
Beaverton Ontario (not to be confused with The Beaverton satire site) is a small town within Brock Township on the eastern shores of Lake Simcoe roughly an hour and a bit's drive north of Toronto if you go all the way up the 404 to the end and taking some side roads. Beaverton is sort of cottage country, south of the Haliburtons, west of the Muskokas, it does not come to mind, but on the Beaver River there are boathouses that are also cottages.  Usually I roll through in the fall on the way up north to Dwight Ontario for my annual fall photography retreat, I did visit Summer 2019 with a family reunion with some cousins and my aunt. There's a family connection to the town, my great uncle Masson Smith was the town doctor in the first half of the 20th century and to make house calls to Thorah Island during the winter he put skis on the front tires of has car. Beaverton honoured my uncle's memory on the wall of the Strand Theatre but my Aunt Mary Elinor, strongly dislikes the ...
