A Gloomy Day in the Country

Image
I went up to the Caledon Ski Club for its Annual General Meeting two weeks ago, and it had to be one of the gloomiest days of the year with the threat of monsoons and gale force winds. Well, that didn't hit and I gave my SRT 101 a workout. It was tough light but JCH 400 helped out in that department. The Very Least I got some cloud detail, sort of. Minolta SRT 101, MC Rokkor lenses. Film: Japan Camera Hunter Street Pan 400, HC110 B.

Gone Skiiing 2016 Edition

We're paying for the last couple of winters, I didn't start skiing until mid January which is the latest in my 41 year skiing career. Caledon Ski Club has an extensive snowmaking system, as long as temperatures cooperate, we got snow. Meanwhile south of Lower Base Line Road, there's barely a dusting on the ground and when you go south of Steeles, it looks like November. This is going to be one of those quality over quantity seasons, I signed up for Podcamp at the end of February, however if it's a nice sunny day with temperatures hovering around -3c, guess what, I'm on the slopes. Camera: Nikon F Photomic Tn, Nikkor S 50 f1.4 lens. Film: Iford HP5 400, HC110 B.

Landscapes with Hasselblads

Camera: Hasselblad 500CM, Zeiss 80 f2.8 Planar lens. Film: Ilford Delta 100, HC110 Dilution B. Location Belfountain Conservation Area Hasselblads while considered a studio camera is really good for doing landscapes. I'm still blown away at how nice the images look with that magic combination of lens, film and developer.

My Leica M3 is getting an overhaul from Kindermann Canada, I had a situation back on Saturday when the shutter decided to get sluggish in the -3c temperatures. That has not happened to me before. So a semi retired factory trained Leica tech my brother recommended to is going to work his magic and itt will be a couple hundred dollars well spent. I managed to get the shutter working properly and managed two rolls. After I think frame 12 you can tell the shutter got sluggish. Sort of like everything below 1/500 became bulb. The remedy was warming the camera up to room temperature and exercising the shutter. Mr. Gerry Smith (no relation alas) is The Canadian factory trained Leica tech and I figure getting the CLA done now makes sense because I don't know how long he wants to keep working even part time. The other thing with this set I managed to do was try HC110 Dilution B again, a developer combination I used when I started developing black and white film four years ago. Rating Kodak ...

I got another early birthday present, my brother Alex is off to Florida for a much earned family vacation and with my birthday a week Friday, I got Nikkor lens. I ask for and I got a Nikkor H 28 f 3.5 lens. Not fast compared to the F2 but what I lose in speed I gain in picture quality. If you shoot with a pre-ai Nikon F, F2 or Nikkormat, get this lens and you won't be disappointed. I shot with my Nikon F with Classican 400 processed in HC110 Dilution B.
