Olympus OM-2n, Kodak Ektar 100 Part One.

Image
While I struggle with Kodak Portra 400 in 35mm, it's not the case with Ektar 100, I have no problem scanning this film at all, regardless what lens system I shoot it through. When slide film became almost impossible to get processed in Southern Ontario when labs decided to stop offering E-6 services, Ektar 100 became that replacement and I'm quite happy with that. I've found this film loves daylight, more the better. I love this film for the punchy colours and the almost slide film saturation.  Camera: Olympus OM-2n, Zuiko MC 50 f1.4 lens,  Film: Kodak Ektar 100.

Ferrania P30 in the Beaches on a Bright August Day

Image
To date I've only shot Ferrania P30 during its Alpha run which to lay people is a test run to get the formula right. I loved the results I got. Here, I shot with the core run and I found the results not quite what I was looking for. Ferrrania P30 is an 80 ISO black and white motion picture stock made famous by Frederico Fellini in films like 8-1/2. It's not a forgiving film with very little latitude, and I found that out today when I shot it. Thing is I've shot in similar light environment a year ago and loved what I got. You have to be careful in two areas, metering, the film has a really shallow tonality, almost the polar opposite compared to  Fuji Acros 100, and two developing. I was sloppy in both. Why do I stick with this film, you get it right the results look glorious.  From my experince, I would use P30 for landscape, architecture, I want it with portraiture and still life. Street photography, maybe not the best choice, where you are going to need a lot more lat...

Everything is Local, Shooting Now on a Pentax KM.

Image
Fun times when your universe shrinks I have no idea what happens next week, sometimes the day of the week becomes irrelevant, the only day is today. Oakville by early April was winding down with a lot less activity on the streets save for road reconstruction on Lakeshore in the eastern half of Downtown Oakville. Road construction is considereed essential and chances are this part of the "big dig" will be finished ahead of schedule.  Everything else, gone quiet. I grabbed this chrome Pentax KM for a decent price at Burlington Camera, the meter was broken but that's not a problem because I have a couple of handheld meters I can choose from. KM's for those not familier with Pentax's mid 1970s was the entry level full featureed body, the K1000 below it was introduced a year later as a stripped down student camera. The grand irony is the KM only made for three years is cheaper than the K1000 which for now retails around $200 CAD used. I'll get the meter fixed so...

Another Look at Bergger Pancro 400 in 120

Image
Bergger Pancro 400 is a two emulsion film, composed with silver bromide and silver iodide layers giving a super wide latitude. I've only shot one roll in 35mm, the tonality was gorgeous but on the grainy side. I have another roll to try out. Now in 120 Pancro 400 shines, especially on a sunny day when you're getting a 6x9 negative, I wish I brought some more with me to the beaches.  Camera: Fujica GW690III, 90 F3.5 Fujion lens. Film: Bergger Pancro 400, HC 110 B.
