The Canon EOS 1n, the Camera that Made Life Difficult for Nikon

Image
I want to thank Ori Carmona, a friend and fellow Facebook Group adminstrator for Canon Film Photography for me to try out. So, my first serious camera was a Canon Rebel XS, your classic plastic fantastic from the late 1990s, once I went to manual focus, I never really used that camera again. Fast forward 20 years and with collection of camera gear from a variety of brands, I sort of saw myself as a Nikon fan boy with a soft spot for Canon FD mount gear and really loved shooting other brands like Minolta, Olympus and Pentax. I never shot with a pro grade Canon EOS mount camera, I do own a Nikon F4 which sadly has developed really bad LCD bleed on both displays so she's toast. Ori loaned me his camera to try out. Yes this camera made Nikon's life very difficult, and probably the reason why the F5 came along.  First I did was consult the owners manual, Canon does things differently than other brands, so Auto Exposure is Av, Shutter Priority is Tv (why I have no idea, it goes back ...

Oakville in January

Recently the US Northeast got sucker punched with two feet of snow, irony in this part of the Great White North, Southern Ontario doesn't have a lot of the white stuff. The other think I got my early Canon F-1 back from Cam-tech (damn you auto correct), it had a problem with mystery flare in the middle of the negative that appears at random every few frames. My tech Roger re-sealed the back of the F-1 and was otherwise stumped. My theory now is there's something inside my camera that's shifting causing the flare, what's even crazier I got it on frame zero when the lens cap was on. Usually you need light coming in to create lens flare. That said, I love the early FD 50 f1.8 lens, it's a contrasty piece of glass. I put on my FTb and use that for a little while. I don't shoot a lot in Oakville partly because I have lived here so long I can't see potential photographs as well as I would elsewhere. One thing I'm doing is shooting a bit  more in my backya...

Winter In Colour

Image
All shot on the 2013 Winter Photography Outing with the Oakville Camera Club up in Belfountain Conservation Area and surrounding neighbourhood. I really love shooting with my Nikon FM2, especially in the winter. The Canadian Government used them up in the high arctic because it was the only camera that would function in temperatures as low as -40c, I don't think the replacement DSLRs would last anywhere near as long out there. Camera: Nikon FM2 and the 35 F2 Ais Lens mostly. Film: Fuji Pro 400 H.
