Santa Color 100 (Kodak Aerocolor 100) in Niagara on the Lake with my Canon New F-1
The guys at Camera Rescue in Finland surprised everyone with a new colour C-41 film for the consumer market (note choice of words) called Santa 100. In reality they reached into the Eastman Kodak product catalogue and cut down Aero Color 100, an aerial survailance film for tracking pollution and map making which was big surprise for me as digital capture was more expensive and nowhere as good at giving super high resolution, learn something new every day.
I had an opportunity to take a recently serviced Canon New- F-1 and installed a power winder that came from another New F-1 body. This isn't a motor drive at a frame or two per second its quite leisurely but that's ok. New F-1's are total beast pro bodies and I love shooting with mine. Sadly my New F-1 AE needs a CLA, but that's to be expected on a 35+ year old camera.
Shooting with Santa 100 I rated at box speed and by and large got really nice results. There were a few frames that look like they got a little over cooked and talking to some people within the film photography community the true speed might be closer to 125. Your results may very, and they did in my case. Santa 100 will lean red but that's also to the time of year I shot, late November on the rare cloudless sunny sky. The sun doesn't rise very high this time of year, the infrared portion of the light spectrum will have more influence due to the sun's angle and less pollution in the skies. I want to try Santa 100/Flic Film Elektra 100/Kodak Aero Color 100 in the spring, summer and fall to see what sort of results I can get. What I do know, regardless of branding, this film does love sunlight.
Now if you want to try Santa 100 you can order from Camrera Store in Finland directly, alternately you can buy Flic Film Elektra 100 closer to home. One suggestion, load it in subdued light. Unlike other colour negative films. Santa 100/Aero Color 100 is on a polyester base and you have be mindful of handing during the loading process. Other than that, have fun with this blast of colour!
