First Roll of Adox HR-50 in Port Perry
Leica recently introduced a new 50 ISO black and white film, becuase, hey, let's not leave any money on the table for those buying M-A's, MP's and the revived M6. This is not that film but those speculate what is, Adox HR-50. I grabbed two rolls at Graination prior to the August long weekend, Jo-Anne was up in North Bay visiting family so I did a solo day drip to Port Perry, never been there before.
I don't shoot a lot of film slower than 100 ISO, struggled with Ferrania P30, and only occasionally shot with Pan F. I did a lot of reading on HR-50, Alex Luykx had a great post on his blog on this film I can't recommend enough before shooting with it. HR-50 has it's own developer but, honestly, FX-39 makes this film sing, and I have a stockpile of FX 39, problem solved. Ironically enough I shot the roll in my Leica M6 Classic.
The results blew me away, no grain to speak of, hence HR (High Resolution) in the HR-50 name, go with the FX-39 1+9 combination. HR-50 loves sunlight, and technically it was a bright sunny day with a diffused hazy sky, thank you to wildfire smoke. Shot another roll in Uxbridge on the way home, and that will be the next post.
Port Perry is a cool little town on the shores of Lake Scugog and it's a lot closer to me than Elora or Niagara on the Lake, perfect for a day trip. I got lucky seeing some pretty cool cars, the gem of the lot being the Porsche 914, you don't see many of those around any more.
Camera: Leica M6 Classic, 50 F2 Summicron lens (made in Midland Ontario).
Film: Adox HR-50, FX-39 1+9.
