Caledon in July

 It was a nice Sunday morning drive up to Belfountain northwest of Toronto. I took one of my Rolleiflexes with me this time out (the 2.8C) and shot with some OG Fujifilm Acros 100, I exposed at 80 ISO and processed in Adox FX-39 developer. I found the results very pleasing consider the film shock was from the pre Pandemic times. 

My visit to Belfountain wasn't photography focused but more a byproduct of a "Town Hall" meeting at the Caledon Ski Club regarding the proposed extensive renovations to the West Lodge to bring it into the 2020s and beyond and meet ski club member needs. Without going into too much detail, the West Lodge needs a lot of love in serveral areas from adding in fire suppression systems, updated electrical, a new roof, I can go on. Needless to say, the situation sparked debate with one small yet very vocal faction of the leadersihip crying bloody murder. Without going too deep into the mud, I left with PTSD, I'm cool with a special assessment if that means a safe facility that can meet the needs of club members and vistors. Just do the final studies, put the project out to tender and be done with it already, the "Caledon Crew" really do need to chill out. That's my two cents. 

To come down from all that I finished the roll of Acros around Belfountain and up on Shaw's Creek Road.

The Drive Back Down 35 Through Dorset and Minden

 South of Huntsville I took the scenic route via Highway 35 to one partly avoid the hellscape that's the 400/11 when you get close to Barrie and points south and two, go exploring with Jo-Anne who hasn't been down this way before. Another reason why we chose this route was I wanted to stop by my cousins' cottage south of Beaverton on Lake Simcoe so Jo-Anne can meet them.  It was beautiful drive down and we had lunch at the Trading Bay Dining Company in Dorset, despite being mid October it was a nice day for patio dining. In the end it was a good day for driving and exploring but the closer we got to Southern Ontario the rain started and by the time we got back to Toronto it was a wall of water making navigating a treat to Jo-Anne's place. I prefer to remember the nicer parts up in Dorset and Minden. Camera: Olympus OM-1n, Zuiko lenses.  Film: Kodak Ultramax 400.

The Canon EOS 1n, the Camera that Made Life Difficult for Nikon

I want to thank Ori Carmona, a friend and fellow Facebook Group adminstrator for Canon Film Photography for me to try out. So, my first serious camera was a Canon Rebel XS, your classic plastic fantastic from the late 1990s, once I went to manual focus, I never really used that camera again. Fast forward 20 years and with collection of camera gear from a variety of brands, I sort of saw myself as a Nikon fan boy with a soft spot for Canon FD mount gear and really loved shooting other brands like Minolta, Olympus and Pentax. I never shot with a pro grade Canon EOS mount camera, I do own a Nikon F4 which sadly has developed really bad LCD bleed on both displays so she's toast. Ori loaned me his camera to try out. Review, Garry's Camera Repair

Decent camera repair techs are hard to come by. We have a few in Southern Ontario but due to age, their numbers are dwindling. Now, I have a few cameras that need a specialist's knowledge, or a desire to work on. For example, a Minolta XE-7 I owned sat for ages because it needed a CLA and the film advance lever was sticking, no one in Southern Ontario wanted to touch the camera. In fact, one of my go-to techs (since passed) only half joking yelled, get that camera out of his shop. He also said that with Bronica gear too. After some research on Facebook and Flickr Minolta Forums, I came across Garry's Camera in Buffalo Grove Illinois. With other brands, Garry has a bit of a hit or miss reputation, but with Minolta, especially Minolta that has electronic shutters and sophisticated onboard circuits, Garry does great work. While he has an online form to fill out it won't fill out a Canadian address, no biggie a Word or Google Document printed off capturing the information ...
